Return to Texas 2009
TYE, TX TO PECOS, TX
Thursday, October 15, 2009
Continuing on I-20 through Midland and Odessa, past some of the sand hills at Monahans, we arrived at Tra-Park RV Park in Pecos. This is an Escapees Park and we have been here once or twice before. It’s basically a “parking lot” with all pull-through sites placed close together.
TRENTON, MO TO EL DORADO, KS
Sunday, October 11, 2009
Straight south on the Interstate with a little bit of drizzle on the windshield. Kansas (this part, anyway) is mostly flat prairie. Farmhouses and barns here and there, surrounded by pastures, wheat, soybeans, and corn.
DES MOINES, IA TO TRENTON, MO
Thursday, October 8, 2009
Rain accompanied us for the entire drive today, and the temperatures are falling. The first Missouri rest area sported a hillside of silhouetted bison and cowboy. We drove on Missouri rural roads to reach Crowder State Park. As we drove to the camping area we were enveloped in fall leaves from [...]
MENOMONIE, WI TO OWATONNA, MN
Tuesday, October 6, 2009
Rain! Rain! Not a pleasant day to be out. We drove around St. Paul and south to spend a night in Minnesota. This was a milestone! We have now visited every state (except Hawaii) twice!
DE FOREST, WI TO MENOMONIE, WI
Sunday, October 4, 2009
It was cool and rainy as we crossed Wisconsin to Menomonie. Wisconsin is a lovely state. The dairy farms tucked in the valleys look exactly like paintings. We were here to visit Carol’s niece, Glenda Huber, and her family. We checked in to the Twin Springs Resort. Lil and John have had [...]
GRANGER, IN TO DE FOREST, WI
Saturday, October 3, 2009
The drive around Chicago was not as frantic as it would have been on a weekday morning. In the early afternoon we were in Wisconsin…a new state for the fifth-wheel…and the Madison KOA in DeForest, Wisconsin. An especially nice campground, not too big, with level sites and good wi-fi. We set [...]
CLINTON, MI TO GRANGER, IN
Wednesday, September 30, 2009
We chose to take U.S. 12 instead of an interstate today. It’s interesting to drive alongside fields and pastures, and through small towns that advertise their champion Little League teams and their spaghetti suppers. The South Bend KOA is actually in Granger, Indiana. It’s situated perfectly for us; six miles from [...]
WASHINGTON PA TO PORT CLINTON OH
Sunday, September 27, 2009
Rain! The drive to Port Clinton, Ohio…on the banks of Lake Erie…took only a few hours but they were mostly rainy hours. Luckily, it stopped raining when we arrived at East Harbor State Park. This was another huge park with camping (with electric hookups), hiking, boat ramps, and a store. Not [...]
WINCHESTER VA TO WASHINGTON PA
Saturday, September 26, 2009
The Pennsylvania Turnpike is not our favorite road, but on a Saturday it was relatively quiet. We are beginning to see the colors of fall on the hillsides, and the temperature is a little cooler. The Washington/Pittsburgh KOA was waiting for us, down a narrow, winding back road and up a [...]
LAUREL, DE TO MILLERSVILLE, MD
Friday, September 18, 2009
The travel day seems to pass more quickly when we are on familiar roads. It was no time at all before we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and found the Washington D.C./Capitol KOA in Millersville. This is another place we’ve been in the past; sometimes with our grandchildren and sometimes with [...]
