July, 2010
July 1, 2010 - July 3, 2010
New month;new weather. As we moved to Jacob Lake, Arizona we encountered cooler weather. During our three days at Kaibab Camper Village RV Park we didn’t use the A/C at all. Pleasant days and cool nights. We had tried for reservations at the campground in Grand Canyon, but, not surprisingly, it [...]
JUNE, 2010
June 1, 2010 - June 30, 2010
June 1 was moving day at CARE. (Also, Ed’s birthday.) Six of us were leaving, five more were coming in. Those of us leaving were all headed in different directions. We are going west, before we go north, so our first challenge was to drive around Houston. Our choice was to [...]
TEXAS GULF COAST
April 17, 2010 - April 23, 2010
With final hugs from the few “Tea Timers” left at Alamo Palms, we were on our way northeast to the Texas Gulf Coast. The morning passed quickly, and soon we were eating lunch at Joe Cotten’s Barbecue in Robstown, Texas. At this unique restaurant the formally dressed waiters [...]

ROAMING AND EXPLORING, 2010
TO TRAVEL PURPOSEFULLY UNHINDERED THROUGH A WIDE AREA…FOR ADVENTURE OR DISCOVERY
We have had a wonderful winter, once again, in Alamo, Texas. As workampers on the Courtesy team at Alamo Palms RV Resort we’ve helped out around the Park and in our off days we have had opportunities for dining out, [...]
DEL RIO, TX TO ALAMO, TX
Saturday, October 24, 2009
This was the last day for this trip, and the longest drive at 355 miles. The closer we got to Alamo, the more familiar the territory so it did not seem so far.
BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TX TO DEL RIO, TX
Friday, October 23, 2009
This was probably the least challenging of our driving days. 300 miles of straight highway through desolate west Texas.
THURSDAY
Thursday, we took a side trip north, out of the park to the Stillwell RV Park and Store. This facility is on a ranch owned by the Stillwells for many years.
WEDNESDAY
At 8:30 this morning, Wednesday, we joined Ranger Mark Flippo and fourteen others on a bird walk. It was at the picnic area near our campground and we walked from there to the bank of the Rio Grande as well as some paths nearby.
TUESDAY
Grapevine Hills Trail was Tuesday’s goal. Another improved dirt road led us about fifteen minutes deep into the desert. We purposely took the truck again this time, and a good thing, too. It was easy to imagine ourselves in a buckboard wagon as we jounced along
MONDAY
Monday morning we treated ourselves to the breakfast buffet at the Chisos Mountain Lodge. Quitetasty and reasonably priced. There is wi-fi access at the lodge, so we caught up on email.
